There is nothing not to love about Laura Kaye’s Worth Fighting For, A Warrior Fight Club/Big Sky Novella that is also part of Kristen Proby’s Crossover Collection. Tara Hunter and Jesse Anderson, both ex-military Navy divers are both trying to overcome having to give up their careers, moving on as commercial divers. How can you not love it when these two hot divers meet by chance at a local bar, share a plate of nachos, hot wings and a drool worthy ice cream sundae with two sauces, chocolate chips all served over a warm chocolate chip cookie? I could all but taste this food as I read about them eating all of it! I felt like I was with them at the bar. This book made me laugh and tear up. I will be reading it a second time too.Blond haired Tara had been almost killed during a navy dive and this accident ended her career. Now she dove commercially but she still suffered from anxiety attacks about out getting in the water again to dive. She used a strategy to identify five things she could see, four things she could hear, three things she could feel, two things she could smell and one thing she could taste, and then took a deep breath. Identifying with the environment helped calm her. I was nearly blown away by this! I have stored it away in my mind to use if I ever need it! I learned something to help myself! What a great book- teaches me and draws me in even more into the story.Enter tall, dark haired, dark eyed, broad shouldered former deep-sea diver Jesse, who during their sharing of dinner, mentions a song from the old classic movie, Casablanca, Tara’s favorite and Jesse says it is one of the best movies of all time! She tells him she belongs to an MMA training club, which is for wounded warriors to help them overcome any emotional issues they now have. She did not tell him it was only for wounded warriors then but later on, he joins the MMA training club too. Jesse is struggling to overcome the loss of fellow navy divers who were under his command and also feeling like he has always let his family down. He put in his 20 years in the Navy and got out and was now going to start a job as a commercial diver.During their time at the bar, Tara and Jess “clicked†and went for a long walk after they left the bar and ended up spending the night together, having a passionate night they both only imagined. It was the next morning when Jesse showed up for work at his new diving job and he and Tara realized they would be working together as teammates. Shock and near panic was in the air. They both had to figure out what they each wanted from one another and for their careers, and Tara had to learn to trust herself and trust Jesse who seemed to understand her and knew when she needed him, even if it was just a touch on her shoulder. I loved watching the process they both went through to learn to love again, trust again and how hard they fought to do all this, each learning they were worth fighting for. All the while I was reading this story, I knew they were meant to be together but they had to figure it out. At the end of the story, the quote Jesse says to her from Casablanca is perfect. ‘â€Here’s looking at you, kid.â€â€™ Still smiling here.
When I saw the chance to read Worth Fighting For by Laura Kaye as part of the Kristen Proby Crossover Collection I was super excited. And I can not deny that I completely loved this book. It’s been a while since I had the chance to add something from Laura Kaye into my blog schedule as it books up so far in advance most times. Regardless, I am a longtime fan and truly loved this story. This dual perspective, military romance is set in Washington DC with the brother to Willa from Waiting for Willa by the extremely talented Kristen Proby. Jesse Anderson is a twenty-year Navy EOD Veteran and it took exactly two seconds to fall for him hook, line and sinker. 😉 He’s sexy, laid-back and self-deprecating but his feelings for character and his dedication to his country made him the perfect hero for this romance. Set in the Warrior Fight Club series, readers will also love the ties to previously explored characters and the MMA trope. But the true star of this story for me was Tara Hunter, the heroine. I seriously loved Tara. Also a veteran, Tara struggles with debilitating anxiety after a diving accident that nearly cost her her life. Tara’s strength and depth was well documented and she’s my favorite type of heroine. Jesse and Tara have the kinda insta-attraction that leads to a night between the sheets and will suck you straight into the story as it did me. Worth Fighting For is the perfect example of Laura Kaye’s writing styles and since it’s been a while since I have read her words, I was reminded all over again why she’s such an amazing author. This story is a novella, but I found that nothing short of five stars would due—if you read my reviews, it’s rare for me to give a novella more than four stars. Yet, my reasons for often giving lesser ratings are largely absent. The story showed depth, had great character progression, and this books plot was fantastic and relatively easy to read. Yes, it’s a military romance, and yes, it’s a little more angsty due to that, but the romance itself was easy and believable without any huge plot twists. Its sexy, and well laid out—I read it in one sitting and would definitely recommend it far and wide!!!
Once again Laura Kaye has given us another amazing story in her Warrior Fight Club series. “Worth Fighting For†is an impassioned tale of second chances, overcoming your fears and finding that one special person who will always be by your side.Jesse and Tara are Navy veterans who both have demons to conquer, which had kept them from being happy and feeling loved. I could feel Tara’s agony each time she was faced with a difficult task or decision. Her pain radiated from the pages, making me wish I could comfort her in some way. Jesse’s guilt over the loss of his fellow servicemen was very apparent and had kept him closed off from the people who were important to him. Their chance meeting one night over nachos resulted in an intense and romantic connection that was magical and unforgettable. Jesse thought Tara was beautiful and she couldn’t believe how much they had in common. But the light of the next morning brought problems they could not avoid. Jesse knew he would worry about Tara at work, but she thought she could handle being with him everyday. Jesse was certain that Tara was his future and he was determined to find a way that they could be together forever.Jesse and Tara are a passionate couple who fate brought together so they would never be alone again. Their lives would be free of pain and desperation and full of love and laughter; their journey hopeful, their love everlasting.
