Moshe Feldenkrais is a fantastic author. Yes his writing style is a bit pedantic or intellectual, but if you really pay attention, his technique is pure emotion, it's pure feltness, it's a purely creative approach to self-discovery and growth.His techniques have played a massive role in my development outside the more boring, and creatively suffocating means of more mainstream self-development. If you're an artist of any kind, then his content will resonate with you deeply. If you're more logical, then it probably won't make sense to you. Ideally you want both, but people tend to be one or the other.His approach is very much related to hypnosis, meditation, spirituality and body work. It's about exploring the relationship between movements in the body and thoughts in the mind as a means to creatively induce change. It's very much related to the idea of neuromuscular lock which says that thoughts in the mind are maintained by muscle locks/tension patterns throughout the body.Great book, great techniques. I wish I could have met the man himself.
I bought this book after running across the Feldendrais Method online. It looked very promising. Unfortunately, the book is not written in an easy to read way. There doesn't seem to be a clear and logical build up of the ideas. There are tons of general statements about culture and the body peppered in through the instructions, making it very difficult to figure out exactly what you are supposed to be doing.The cover says "Easy to do healthy exercises", but the book does a very poor job of explaining the movements in a way that would be easy to most people. Its not that the movements look that difficult, its that he spends so much time explaining a lot of different things to think about, not think about, do, not do, etc, by the time you get to the handful of awkward wooden mannequin pictures, you have to wonder if the book is serious.
I was disappointed in the fact that the movements were described only, pictures would be very useful.
Not reviewing the content which is excellent but the physical book itself. I bought the paperback new from Amazon and it un readable. The small type and typeface style on the very low quality yellow paper make it a torture to read, even with reading glasses. How about a digital version please?
My sciatic is very painful. I understand this author is the best. I have tried several of the movements and it seems to help.
Feldenkrais' beginning program is wonderful. This tiny book is packed with thought-provoking, mind-opening information and it takes a time to digest. However, it is worth the time. When you do the simple exercises, you will hardly realize that you are awakening the mind-body connection and then you realize that you are feeling better, smiling more and generally better. It is not a miracle cure, it is a beginning.
This book has helped me so much, I`m in less pain and can sleep at night better than before. I would wake up in pain but my shoulder and back feel a lot better thanks to these simple movements. I would recommend it.
Book arrived in good condition. I was surprised and disappointed that there are no pictures of the movements.
