I think I like this series better than the 6th grade Ninja. And that's saying something. Marcus writes compelling stories that teach great life lessons without being preachy or over the top. They are laugh out funny and I enjoy reading them as much as my son does hearing them.
It was lots of fun as a father and mother to read to our 10 year old son.Good story.Interesting plot.Nice normal moral story lessons.Fun!!!
Brody Valentine is an extremely likable character. He's smart, considerate, and he doesn't go off on random tangents or mock the reader for any reason. I extremely appreciated how "normal" he comes across as -- Brody is a real kid caught up in a conspiracy, not the author pretending that he's a "typical" kid and trying to write a spy story. That said, I rolled my eyes at a couple things in the books -- for example, the first book had a "candy problem" that was treated in such a way that it seemed like an analogy to drug use. I guess this bothered me more because the world is otherwise very realistic for a spy story. In this book, the bad guy's plans aren't exactly that catastrophic (I don't think that counts as a spoiler?), and I did find the repeated "Normal is safe!" "Safe is boring!" conversation to be kind of annoying. But neither of those is really that bad, and watching Brody uncover a secret society that I could very well imagine in real life was very satisfying. Not to mention the references to the author's 6th Grade Ninja series (haven't read that one yet, but I just bought one of the later books just to see if Chase mentions Brody). And the characters of Maddie and Linus are also a huge plus. It was nice to see a heroine who is neither a tomboy or a girly-girl. So many others label their female characters with one or the other, probably trying to make a feminit statement by implying, "look! This girl is not ashamed of her masculinity/feminity! She is herself!" Maddie doesn't fall into this.I do hope, though, that the next book -- assuming there is one -- will give Linus more character development, though. He does so much, but most of it is offscreen. His aloofness just kind of annoys me, that's all.In conclusion: read the first book first, then gt this one. The two of them will make for a wonderful spy stoy that is fully believable and interesting. The books are obviously vey professional, and I think you'll enjoy them.
This is the second installment of a fun series of books. They're a little campy and over the top, but that's part of the fun. My ten-year-old has enjoyed them, and they seem to be a good level of reading for him.
My 10 yo daughter loves this series! Great to follow-up the Secret Ninja series by same author.
The books arrived on time and my great-grandsonwas so happy to receive them. Thank you!!
No ninjas only secret agents in primary school. Good read for the kiddies.
Our son just devoured this series in a matter of days. He loves the content and idea behind the story line.
