About the Author

Valjeanne Jeffers is a graduate of Spelman College, a member of the Carolina African American Writer’s Collective (CAAWC) and the author of eleven books: Including her Immortal series, and Scierogenous: An Anthology of Erotic Science Fiction and Fantasy (co-edited with Quinton Veal). Her first novel, Immortal, is featured on the Invisible Universe Documentary time-line, and her novella, The Switch II: Clockwork was nominated as best eBook novella of 2013, by the eFestival of words. Once again Mona Livelong, the formidable detective and sorceress, navigates multiple realms and realities to battle the forces of supernatural malevolence. Let me be blunt before I delve to the meat of the matter! This is a very good book.In this latest offering, Mona is enlisted by a powerless witch to retrieve an item supposedly stolen by a troll. While pursuing this assignment, Mona agonizes over the state of her relationship with her estranged boyfriend, Curtis, while trying to sort out the sudden, clawing attraction she’s developed for a womanizing ghost. She must also figure a way to resolve the issue of a troubled woman tormented by a demon-possessed husband. Mona’s boyfriend, Curtis, a law enforcement officer, is beset with his own problems when a fellow officer kills a black citizen under dubious circumstances. Additionally, he has to learn to manage newly acquired paranormal abilities.The author has crafted a superbly paced story set in a profoundly rich and textured world filled with fantasy elements. Strong doses of steampunk add to this world’s visual and conceptual uniqueness. The plot is on point, the action edge-of-the seat, and every character is a gem of development guaranteed to hold the reader’s interest. Mona Livelong is not the heroine we want; she’s the heroine we need. I suspect the author will continue to fulfill our insatiable need for as long as she’s able to transcribe such exciting material from her treasure trove of an imagination.
